Below is an example of a 4" x 3" gutter used on a small canopy roof, dropping into a hopper on the main house roof. This house is in a long row of very well kept terraced houses  in Ilkley. Almost the entire row of houses still have the original sash windows, and the majority still have cast iron pipes and gutters, although some gutters are in timber only a small amount of the row have succumbed to (nasty) plastic.
